Accessibility Statement
Maraki Productions is committed to making our website accessible to everyone — including people who use assistive technologies such as screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, or voice control software. Accessibility is not an afterthought for us. It is part of who we are.
This statement explains our current accessibility position and how we are working to improve it over time.
1. Our Commitment
We aim for our website to be:
• Perceivable — information is presented in ways that all users can access
• Operable — the website can be navigated using keyboard alone, without a mouse
• Understandable — content and navigation are clear and consistent
• Robust — the site works with current and future assistive technologies
These four principles are drawn from the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, the internationally recognised standard for digital accessibility. While our website is not a government site and is not legally required to meet the NZ Government Web Accessibility Standard, we have chosen to use WCAG 2.1 Level AA as our target because it reflects best practice and aligns with our values.
2. Current Accessibility Features
Our website has been designed and built with the following accessibility features in mind:
Navigation
• Keyboard navigation support — core pages can be accessed using Tab, Enter, and Arrow keys
• Logical page structure — headings are used consistently to help screen reader users navigate
• Skip-to-content functionality — [Tiare to confirm once implemented in Wix]
Visual Design
• Colour contrast — text and background combinations meet or approach WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios
• Text resizing — content remains readable when browser text size is increased
• No content relies solely on colour to convey meaning
Images and Media
• Images include descriptive alternative text (alt text) to convey meaning to screen reader users
• Decorative images are marked as such and ignored by screen readers
Video content (TAKAPAPA)
TAKAPAPA documentary trailer has captions
Forms and Contact
• Our contact form includes clearly labelled fields
• Error messages are descriptive and tell you what to fix
• Form fields are compatible with autofill and password managers
Language
• The page language is set to English, which assists screen readers with pronunciation
• Te Reo Māori terms are used throughout the site — screen reader pronunciation of te reo may vary by device
3. Known Limitations
We acknowledge the following limitations with our current website: Known limitations
The Instagram feed embed may not be fully screen reader compatible.
4. What To Do If You Experience an Accessibility Issue
If you are unable to access any part of our website, or if you find something that is not working as it should, we want to know about it.
Please contact us at:
Email: hello@marakiproductions.co.nz
Subject line to use: Website Accessibility Issue
Please describe the issue as clearly as you can, including the page you were on, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology or browser you were using. We will aim to respond within 5 working days.
5. Alternative Formats
If you need information from our website in an alternative format — such as plain text, large print, or audio description — please get in touch and we will do our best to provide it.
6. Our Audience and Why This Matters
Maraki Productions works alongside disabled artists, accessibility advocates, and communities for whom equitable access is fundamental. The communities we serve include people who rely on assistive technologies every day.
This is not a compliance exercise. An accessible website is part of living our values.
7. Technical Information
Our website is built on the Wix platform. Wix implements a range of accessibility features at the platform level, including ARIA landmarks, semantic HTML, and keyboard navigation support. You can read more about Wix's accessibility approach at:

We use WCAG 2.1 Level AA as our accessibility target. The full guidelines are available at:
8. Ongoing Improvement
Accessibility is not a one-time fix. We are committed to:
• Reviewing this statement and our accessibility features annually
• Testing the site with screen readers and keyboard-only navigation when significant changes are made
• Incorporating feedback from our community into how the site is developed and maintained
