MARAKI KI TE AO

Publicity

Maraki's founder Jordan Walker wrote for The Spinoff's Ātea section on the intersection of tā moko, takatāpuitanga, and gender affirmation, exploring how receiving a pūhoro became a deeply personal act of whakapapa and identity. The piece accompanied the release of short documentary TAKAPAPA.

TILDE Melbourne & Wairoa Māori Film Festival

Our short documentary TAKAPAPA was selected to screen at two significant festivals: TILDE, a Trans & Gender Diverse Film Festival based in Naarm, Australia (Saturday 2 May), and the prestigious Wairoa Māori Film Festival, Aotearoa's dedicated platform for indigenous film (Friday 29 May). Together, these selections mark a meaningful milestone for Maraki, celebrating takatāpui storytelling on both an international stage and within our own community.

Tūranga FM

Maraki Productions joined Tūranga FM, home of te reo Māori radio in Tūranganui-a-Kiwa to kōrero about Five Films for Freedom, a global screening initiative we brought to Gisborne. The interview celebrated our community screening, which also featured a special showing of our own short documentary TAKAPAPA.
